KWRAA is a group of pilots, amateur aircraft builders and aviation enthusiasts from the Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph area of Southern Ontario. We meet at 7:30 pm on the second Thursday of each month from September to May in the Cadet building at Waterloo Regional Airport. CYKF is in Woolwich Township near Breslau, Ontario centrally located between Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph and Cambridge, Ontario. KWRAA members also host off-site fly-ins throughout the summer at smaller airstrips. Some of our members have built and are now flying their own aircraft; others are still building and anticipating that first flight, while some of us fly used amateur-built or factory built aircraft. The variety of amateur-built aircraft on the market is almost overwhelming for would-be builders, so our group can assist prospective builders with their big decision by reviewing mission profiles, discussing the construction techniques required, assessing the builder's technical abilities and evaluating the tools and facilities available to the builder. Most of our members are available to assist other members when they require a helping hand or advice on their projects. For a look at the airplanes owned and built by our members, whether flying or under construction, go to the Completed Projects and Projects Under Construction pages of our site. Whatever we fly, our goal is to promote recreational flying as a safe, fun and economical hobby. Our monthly meetings generally include a presentation on a variety of topics related to construction, maintenance or safe operation of amateur built aircraft.
Members of KWRAA range from aviation enthusiasts to Recreational Pilots, Private Pilots, and Commercial Pilots. Many of our members have been in aviation for decades and some have completed several amateur-built planes. Some people join to get the valuable knowledge they need to make the Buy or Build decision or the What to Build decision, some join to stay current with technology or flight safety issues, but all have stayed for the camaraderie and great advice they get from other KWRAA members.
